The Luxembourgish language test taken on the path to naturalisation. It is entirely oral — nothing you write is assessed.
It is the language requirement on the route to Luxembourgish nationality. Exemptions exist in certain cases — the INLL and Guichet.lu are the authorities on who must sit it.
You must understand more than you produce: B1 for listening, A2 for speaking. That gap is deliberate — and it is why passive vocabulary matters as much as active.
You listen, then you talk: about yourself, your daily life, your work, a picture. Nobody asks you to conjugate anything in the abstract.
16Word is a vocabulary app, not an examining body. For registration, dates, fees, exemptions and the official rules, go to Institut national des langues and Guichet.lu . Deliberately, you will find no fees or dates on this page — a stale number here would be worse than none.
Rarely on grammar. Almost always on a missing word — and most often on the words that keep a conversation alive rather than the ones that name things.
If you can say “nach eng Kéier, wann ech gelift” instead of freezing, an examiner hears someone managing a conversation in Luxembourgish. That is the whole skill being assessed.
16 words a day
One 16-word session a day is roughly 480 words a month passing through active recall — then checked again at 7, 30 and 90 days, so the ones that stick are the ones you keep.
The 33 sets below hold 401 phrases in total.
33 sets, 401 phrases, ordered by exam value — not alphabetically. Tap any set to open it.
This page is free and always will be. What Basic adds is the part that makes vocabulary stay: every topic, every page, real recall, and audio you can imitate.
All 40 topics and every page — the free trial opens page 1 of Common Verbs. The path above spans housing, work, health, admin and more.
No daily ceiling: go as far as the day allows, then let spaced repetition bring the words back on schedule.
Answer out loud with the microphone instead of typing — the closest thing to the oral exam you can practise alone.
Download your topics and keep going on the train, with no signal at all.
